Martin Odersky's free coursera courses have been paywalled

Martin Odersky has some great Coursera courses on functional programming in Scala. They used to be free, but now Coursera has paywalled them. You can access them for free for a one week free trial, and it’s $50/month after that. See, for example, https://www.coursera.org/learn/scala-functional-programming?specialization=scala#about

This page still claims the courses are free to audit, which used to be true, but now isn’t. Because of this I suspect Coursera made this change without notifying anyone, including the teachers of the courses. In any case, the Scala courses page should at least be updated to make it clear that some of the courses are not free. It would be awesome if we could do something to restore access to the classes. Just posting the lecture videos on Youtube would be super helpful. If there’s another platform for the rest of the course material, that would also be great. Maybe there’s also a way to put pressure on Coursera to make the courses free again, at least for those of us like me who don’t care about certificates?

I’m not sure who to talk to about this, so I’m hoping that posting here will get this in front of the right set of eyeballs. Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the report. The Scala Center is aware and working on it. The ticket to watch is Scala Center's Coursera courses no longer available for free? · Issue #1912 · scala/scala-lang · GitHub

But you’re right that our courses page should have a notice on it in the meantime. I don’t know why that didn’t occur to us before. I’ve added one.
